WELCOME

Our Association

This is the website of Jundokan United Kingdom. Our association is an appointed Branch of the Jundokan Sohonbu in Naha, Okinawa, and we are their official representatives here in the UK.

Jundokan United Kingdom has been established since 1986, with the the express permission of the late Master Eiichi Miyazato, 10th Dan (Hanshi).

Our UK Chief Instructor (Shibucho) is Sensei Bob Honiball, and was graded 7th Dan by Sensei Koshin Iha in 2003.

In 2004 the Jundokan So Honbu Dojo (Miyazato Dojo) in Naha resigned from the Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate Do Kyokai.  All Jundokan branch associations/dojos were asked to decide whether to remain with the Kyokai or the Jundokan.  We decided that Jundokan United Kingdom would remain with the Jundokan So Honbu and therefore we too have withdrawn from the Kyokai.

Goju Ryu Karate Training

Our classes are specifically aimed at personal development, self defence, health and fitness. We train and teach traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate Do in the same way as it is taught at the Jundokan So Honbu Dojo in Naha Okinawa. The training is progressively demanding as each student's physical and mental strength and skill increases, thereby encouraging personal qualities of austerity, sincerity and gentleness. We do not teach "sport" or "competition" karate, although students are welcome to take part in tournaments if they so wish.
